In Civilization 6, the Scientific victory functions in largely the same way as before. You must still get to almost the end of the Technology tree, and still assemble multiple components for space travel, albeit with the caveat that, this time, your final destination is the colonisation of Mars. The long-awaited sequel is a little under two weeks away now (it releases on 11th February). I had a chance to play Little Nightmares 2 recently, and wrote about it. The type of games this was affecting was never specified, however screenwriter Gary Whitta recently claimed that Sony had paid Cult of the Lamb’s developer, Massive Monster, to stop the indie-hit from appearing on Xbox’s service. The game’s publisher Devolver Digital has now rebuked Whitta’s statement. Responding to The Gamer, a spokesperson for the company said “this is absolutely not true”. The claim Sony was blocking games from going onto Games Pass emerged in light of Microsoft’s intent to buy Activision Blizzard, in a record breaking $68bn deal....

Booting up the PC version of Days Gone, it’s immediately apparent that this isn’t just a basic PS4 Pro conversion. The game is based on Epic’s Unreal Engine 4 and I was happy to see that Bend Studio had updated the PC version to include a more recent UE4 innovation - software-based screen-space ray traced global illumination - available as an upgrade over the standard ambient occlusion tech deployed on the console versions....

However, a new glitch was accidentally introduced in a recent update for The Sims 4, and it is fast tracking this whole process. This means that some elderly sims have been dropping dead well before their time. As well as this, children are rapidly becoming teens, teens becoming young adults and so on. Players are reporting this all happening after a visit to create-a-sim (CAS), or during the loading screens....

This version of the PS4 exclusive doesn’t include any extra in-game items or special goodies - just an alternate gloomy cover featuring the character of Higgs. In Death Stranding, he’s also known as the Man in the Golden Mask and is played by Troy Baker. As far as limited editions go, it isn’t so spectacular. I think we can all agree that it’s far more stylish than the game’s original box art, though!...

Debuting in Season of the Lost, and working similarly to Atlas Skews, this is one of the first challenges you can complete during week 1, which will remain available throughout the season. While the first challenge only requires for you to gather three Trivial Mysteries alone, each one you find unlocks a secret triumph entry. THQ has promised this release will be a faithful remake of 2006’s alien filled caper, complete with “five huge open-world areas”. These areas are Bay City, Albion, Takoshima, Tunguska, and, what with this being a game with an out of this world entity roaming through its maps, the Moon. But, who exactly will players come across within these vast maps? Well, as Destroy All Humans! 2 - Reprobed is set in the swinging ’60s, you will have to deal with more than a small handful of hippies on your quest for glory....

Stitch will be the third new character included in the free update, after Toy Story’s Woody and Buzz, as the popular Disney Pixar live service life simulation continues to grow in size. The update will also add winter outfits for your character and for NPCs (Merlin will dress up as Santa), the ability to build snowmen (how very Frozen), set up campfires and cook marshmallows. All of this will be wrapped up together in Disney Dreamlight Valley’s December update, which will be titled “Missions in Uncharted Space”....

This update is also when the game’s next battle pass-like Star Path will be made available - though there’s no word yet on its theme. The first Star Path, full of Pixar in-game items, ran for a month following Disney Dreamlight Valley’s early access launch last month. The Authority DLC, as its loosely name implies, brings some new options for those enamoured with Dying Light 2’s Peacekeeper faction. This group of former soldiers are sticklers for law and order, and the Authority Pack gives players new armour and a new weapon inspired by their outlook, enabling them to wield some righteous, bludgeoning justice. Not everything will be available at once, however, with Techland opting to spread its contents across three parts....

Until recently, Motive feels like it has flown under the radar. Founded in 2015 as EA’s new Montreal home for former Assassin’s Creed co-creator Jade Raymond, it took five years for the studio to ship its first game: the generally well-regarded Star Wars Squadrons. By this point, Raymond had already been gone two years - poached by Google to work on the ill-fated Stadia. Meanwhile, an ambitious new IP the studio had been trying to build - shown publicly in 2020 by EA via a brief snippet of concept footage - was still struggling to find direction....

Elden Ring publisher Bandai Namco confirmed the news via Twitter this afternoon with a brief trailer showing the new update in action. The update promises multiplayer action where you can fight alongside friends to take on the game’s Colosseum, or fight against them in new PVP modes. This update has been a long time coming, with hints at its existence discovered months ago by fans poking around in Elden Ring’s files....

Elden Ring has now been beaten in under half an hour. Truly impressive stuff! ORIGINAL STORY 11:00am UK: Another day, another Elden Ring speedrun record. Last week we reported that the game had been completed in two and a half hours, then under an hour, and then under 50 minutes. Now Distortion2 - responsible for that last time - has finished the game in just 33 minutes. So how is it done?...

Update 1.02.2 is live for PC and PS5 now, and sorts an issue where game progress was not always saved on PS5 if the console crashed, or if you pulled the plug while in Rest Mode. Elden Ring publisher Bandai Namco had previously told players to ensure they saved their games “manually by exiting the game regularly”, and by “opening the system menu using the Option button and selecting ‘Quit Game’....

The character is a mere husk of a man with a golden mask on his face. He’s so enlightened he doesn’t ever speak and instead just points towards the towering Erdtree with a “…”. Except, thanks to datamining, he does actually have a voice line hidden away in the Network Test version of the game. The revelation comes courtesy of renowned Elden Ring dataminer Sekiro Dubi, who restored a hidden voice line for Goldmask (thanks Kotaku)....

Distortion2 was responsible for a run under 50 minutes, which he then beat with a run under half an hour. Then last week Hazeblade set a record under 25 minutes. Distortion2 has now followed that with a speedrun time of 18:58. He streamed for 15 hours on Twitch doing run after run until, eventually, he set the new record. “Thank you everyone who was there and supported me during this insane stream,” he said in a follow-up tweet....
