Future updates planned for the game have been scrapped, and its servers will go dark on 28th February next year. After that, you will no longer be able to log in and play. Babylon’s Fall only launched in March this year, but has struggled to attract players from the get-go. Square Enix confirmed it was pulling the plug this morning, and said it would run a final season of content from November until the game goes dark....
That’s according to a tweet from the official Back 4 Blood account. Back 4 Blood is a co-op focused first-person shooter made by Turtle Rock, the creator of Left 4 Dead (for more, check out Eurogamer’s Back 4 Blood review). The game’s popularity was no doubt boosted by its availability on Xbox Game Pass at launch. Otherwise, expect to pay around £50 on PlayStation consoles and PC. Speaking of PC, Back 4 Blood is doing well on Steam, where we have official concurrent players figures....
The spiritual successor to Left 4 Dead released back in October last year for PC, PlayStation and Xbox. By the end of that month, it had six million players already - no doubt boosted by its arrival via Xbox Game Pass. Today also brings word of Tunnels of Terror, a “major” expansion set to arrive on 12th April as part of the game’s Annual Pass. This adds a new PVE activity, fresh Cleaners and Ridden variants and yet more character and gun skins....
Gone is the Engineer, with that class’ kit split between the Support, which gains the Repair Tool and Limpet Charge gadgets, and the new Pilot, Tanker, and Cavalry classes, which gain unique weapons of their own. What’s most promising is the influx of players that should come as Battlefield 2042 hits Game Pass and EA Play, hopefully ensuring once sparse servers are fully-populated. It’s part of a bigger push to get people playing Battlefield 2042, with free play periods for everyone across all platforms across December - on Xbox you can play for nada from December 1st-4th, on PC from December 1st-5th and on PlayStation from December 16th-23rd....
Bayonetta 3 doesn’t change any of that; indeed it’s as bombastic, overstated and over-the-top as this series has ever been, and by extension perhaps the most outrageous thing PlatinumGames has produced yet. It’s also, though, perhaps its most unrefined, because for all its considerable charms Bayonetta 3 is a mess. A charming, frequently dazzling mess, but a mess all the same. Maybe that’s inevitable in a sequel that throws everything it can at the player, piling on one idea after the other until the whole thing buckles....

In a blog post on its website, BioWare boss Casey Hudson said this a remastered edition of the Mass Effect trilogy. “For many months now, our team at BioWare has been hard at work updating the textures, shaders, models, effects, and technical features of three enormous games,” Hudson said. “Our goal was not to remake or reimagine the original games, but to modernise the experience so that fans and new players can experience the original work in its best possible form....

It seems these stem from an ongoing Friend and Family beta version of the game, which is labelled as a “private test build”. Images and video currently circulating show the game’s title screen, character customisation and other initial options, such as game creation and difficulty selection. Footage published to Twitter over the weekend is now offline, but still sits on other social media services, reddit and Imgur. As with previous leaks from August, this footage appears to have originated from the ongoing Friend and Family beta version of the game - something that is labelled as a “private test build”. The latest leaks were uploaded to reddit and show a total of 43 minutes of gameplay footage. This work-in-progress footage includes the map, various cosmetic options and a variety of attacks - though is all subject to change before the release of the full game....
Released on Epic, PlayStation, and Xbox in March, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands takes the tabletop-inspired action of Borderlands 2’s much-loved DLC episode Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep and spins it out into a full-sized game of first-person fantasy adventuring. The game-within-a-game premise casts players as an unnamed “newbie” in the real, Borderlands world who’s taking part in a D&D-like game called Bunkers and Badasses. Several celebrity-voiced friends are along for the ride, as is the irrepressible Tina, as Dungeon Master....
The inquiry comes in response to a recommendation by the National Association of Child and Adolescent Defense Centers (ANCED), which has filed several lawsuits against game companies over their use of loot boxes. ANCED argues that loot boxes are a harmful form of gambling - a banned activity in Brazil (via The Esports Observer). Brazilian website The Enemy had access to the legal process involving publisher Garena (known for mobile battle royale game Free Fire), and reported that companies including Activision, Electronic Arts, Riot Games, Nintendo, Konami, Valve, Ubisoft, Tencent, Microsoft, Apple, Google, and Sony have been cited in the lawsuit....
The sci-fi looter-shooter had been due to arrive in just under a month, on 2nd February. Now, publisher Square Enix has announced a demo of Outriders will arrive first, on 25th February, which will let you try the game’s initial few hours and test out all of its classes. You’ll also be able to play in co-op, and carry over your character and progress to the full game. Outriders is the first all-new project from People Can Fly since 2013’s Gears of War: Judgment....
In a company-wide email seen by IGN, D’Hondt said the company’s people team needs to “move forward” with staff “largely comprised of people new to Bungie.” “I know that they need to be trusted to be your advocates - not labeled as ’enablers’ or seen as company resources who provide bad actors with safe harbor,” she added. D’Hondt also said her time at Bungie included “deeply challenging interpersonal conflicts” including firing employees for “performance, bad behavior, and for discrimination, racism, and sexual harassment....
In an October 2020 interview conducted ahead of the release of Black Ops Cold War, Treyarch’s David Vonderhaar suggested ranked play was coming to the game. “Do you know a Black Ops game without a hardcore competitive agenda?” he said. “Can you think of one? I cannot.” But we haven’t heard about ranked play since, leaving some players to wonder if it’s still in the works. “Yes. Ranked Play will be a thing....
It is a social-oriented goal that requires another player to complete, and with the game launching with intermittent server connections - which can sometimes mean the Headquarters is empty - it’s proven more difficult than it looks. To start the specific ‘Commend a fellow soldier’ challenge in Headquarters, first have access to the social space by playing one match, then complete the first set of challenges that appear (these should involve you visiting specific vendors)....

As well as the games developed by studios outside of China, 84 domestic games have also been given the green light in China, which Reuters calls “the world’s largest gaming market”. Chinese megacorps like Tencent and NetEase are amongst those receiving approval, with the former reportedly securing licences for six of its games in December. It’s less than the number of games approved in 2021 - just 76 imported games got the go ahead last year - but it’s been seen as “an important signal towards policy normalisation for the industry”, according to Reuters....
