The remaster of both Grand Theft Auto 5 and Online was first announced back in 2020 during the reveal of the PlayStation 5. Stockley was a caster, streamer and former professional player of the game. A statement from his former casting partner Parker ‘Interro’ Mackay broke the news on 11th October that he “passed away unexpectedly”. A follow up tweet confirmed Stockley died in a car accident. “After speaking with his family they wanted to share that Michael passed away doing what he loved second most in this world: driving,” reads Mackay’s tweet....

As reported yesterday, Stuart discussed the development of Rivet, including gameplay elements and the character’s name. However, lead writer Sam Maggs has responded to IGN’s coverage stating “it’s pretty upsetting and frankly offensive” that she wasn’t included in Stuart’s talk, adding “sucks to have my work erased”. Maggs, who has since left the studio, states she was not credited for her work in the game, but was included instead under “Special Thanks”....

A Shenmue anime was initially announced back in September 2020, with Telecom Animation Film (Tower of God, Lupin the Third: Part 5) handling production, and will see original series creator Yu Suzuki on executive producer duties while Chikara Sakurai (One-Punch Man Season 2, Magimoji Rurumo) takes a directorial role. Unsurprisingly, Shenmue: The Animation is a retelling of the video game saga (much of the original Japanese voice cast will return), beginning with the murder of teenage martial arts pupil Ryo Hazuki’s father and ending with…well, that’s not exactly clear....

Remade as Colossal Cave 3D Adventure, the upcoming project will be a first-person 3D adventure game for VR and PC, IGN revealed. More than 100 environments will feature where you once again have to solve puzzles and hunt for treasure - albeit now with the benefit of being able to see your surroundings. The original Colossal Cave Adventure was the work of Will Crowther, and was released in 1976. It was a formative experience for the world of video games that paved the way for future titles such as Zork, Rogue and the Williams’ own 1980 game Mystery House....

Sloclap’s kung-fu action game launched last week and has already become notorious for its high difficulty level. Looking through trophy data rustled up by PushSquare, however, shows just where those difficulty spikes are: namely, the second level. The game’s Prologue has been completed by around 97 percent of players (easy enough, considering you can’t die), and the first level has been completed by 82 percent of players. That then drops to just 34 percent of players finishing the second level - clearly a huge brick wall for many....

It’s a long-held fan theory that James, the game’s lead character, is looking at the player in the mirror reflection during the opening scene. But Silent Hill artist Masahiro Ito has now officially debunked that theory, confirming James is looking at himself. It’s being made by a company called Contention Games, which has a similar-ish-looking game called Imperium: The Contention. Similar in that it’s a deck-building and customising game, which, of course, Slay the Spire is. Exactly how Slay the Spire will translate is unclear, but the brief description on Contention Games’ website says the board game will be co-operative, and for one-to-four players. The Slay the Spire computer game isn’t co-operative, however, so I’m intrigued to see how a one-player game will become, potentially, for four....
