The RTX 4090 24GB will be available on October 12th and costs $1599/£1679, while the RTX 4080 16GB arrives in November and costs $1199/£1269. There’s also an RTX 4080 12GB model that costs $899/£949. The 4090 and 4080 are reportedly two to four times faster than their Ampere equivalents, which are the 3090 Ti and the 3080 Ti, respectively. Note that Nvidia RTX 30-series cards will remain on sale for the moment, filling in the bottom part of the market until lower-tier RTX 40-series GPUs arrive....

This version of Valve’s classic first-person puzzler comes crafted by Nvidia’s own Lightspeed Studios, and will be released as a free DLC update for existing owners via Steam. As you’d expect from its name, this version adds ray-tracing, Nvidia DLSS 3, “hand-crafted hi-res physically-based textures” and “enhanced high-poly models evocative of the originals”. Grounded has been available in early access for PC and Xbox since July 2020, miniaturising players - in true Honey, I Shrunk the Kids fashion - down to bug height and sending them off on an 80s-themed survival adventure through an ordinary backyard. From Japanese studio Pocketpair, the Pokémon-inspired game is a “multiplayer, open-world survival crafting game” according to the Steam page. Your Poké… sorry, Pals, can fight, build, farm, and (pretty cruelly) work in factories. ‘Remix’ suggests some level of user tweakability and that’s exactly what’s possible, showcased beautifully in Portal. With the rendering replaced, lights can be overridden, assets can be swapped out with newly-created alternatives and textures can be made or remade to be physically-based. It is an entire system for replacing a game’s visuals with path tracing that lives entirely outside the game’s awareness and gameplay code. It is honestly astounding that this works at all - and Portal with RTX shows what Remix can do when time is invested in making new assets and tailoring each and every area and asset in a game to work with the new rendering paradigm....

The subscription has now launched in Asia, but - as spotted by VGC - some PS1 games are using the PAL (Europe, Australia, New Zealand) version instead of the NTSC (Asia, America). That means they’re presented in 50Hz instead of 60Hz, resulting in a lower refresh rate and therefore lower framerates.
